Q. what do you think of news on social media?

A. it's a little skewed in favor of people's personal biases

 * skewed : 한쪽으로 쏠린, 일그러진
 * in favor of : 찬성, 지지

 

A. it creates an echo chamber where any alternative opinions are filtered out.

 * echo chamber : 반향실 효과 (뉴스 미디어가 전하는 정보를 이용하는 이용자가 갖고 있던 기존의 신념이 닫힌 체계로 구성된 커뮤니케이션에 의해 증폭, 강화되고 같은 입장을 지닌 정보만 지속적으로 되풀이 수용하는 현상을 비유적으로 나타낸 말)

 

A. There also seems to be excessive censorship on a lot of social media

 * excessive censorship on media ( = excessice medis censorship): 미디어의 지나친 검열

 

A. It really grinds my gears when people are prevented from expressing themselves.

* grind someone's gear : To greatly or specifically irritate or annoy someone.

 

 

Q. How do people in your country get news?

A. For all the shortcomings in terms of news inside bubbles, 

* shortcoming : 단점, 결점

* in terms of : ~면에서, ~관점에서

 

A. It's a good way to share personal or family news and find out what's afoot in the local area.

* afoot : 진행중에 있는 there's the local newspaper as well, thinking about it

 

A. Most of us are just switching to online sources of media as time goes by.

* as time goes by : 시간이 지날수록
